Faster Muscle Recovery
Sore legs, tight shoulders, stiff quads after a heavy session. More oxygen to the muscle tissue means faster clearance and faster turnaround between training days. A common use case for athletes training through a hard block.
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is used by athletes, guests in recovery, people investing in long-term wellbeing, and everyone in between. Here's a grounded, honest look at the main reasons our Marlow guests come back — and how the session protocols work.
HBOT is a complementary wellness therapy, not a medical treatment. We make no claims to treat any specific condition. Outcomes vary between individuals. Please consult your GP for any specific health concern before beginning any new wellness programme.
Athletes training in and around Marlow, Maidenhead, Cookham, Henley and Bourne End use HBOT as part of their recovery stack — rowers, rugby players, footballers, strongmen, triathletes, cyclists. The rationale is simple: more oxygen delivered to tissue means more raw material for the body's own recovery processes.

More oxygen in the bloodstream fuels endurance work harder and longer. Many guests on regular protocols notice it in their conditioning within a few weeks — lungs open up, recovery between intervals shortens.
A well-oxygenated brain functions more efficiently. Guests regularly report improved focus and clarity following sessions, both in training and everyday life.
Mitochondria run on oxygen. Guests consistently report feeling more energised after sessions — often from the very first dive. Relevant for anyone balancing serious training with the demands of a busy life.
Research into HBOT's anti-inflammatory effect is one of the most extensively studied areas in the field. Particularly relevant for athletes who are grinding through high training loads week after week.
Elite athletes worldwide incorporate HBOT into their recovery protocols for the cumulative edge it can provide across a training block or competitive season.
Most guests aren't elite athletes or in the middle of an injury — they're busy people in Marlow and the surrounding area who want to feel better, sleep better, and invest in their long-term health. HBOT fits well into a broader wellness routine alongside good food, movement and sleep.
Deeper, more restorative sleep is one of the most consistent things our guests tell us about. Many notice it within the first few sessions — a quieter mind and easier drift into proper rest.
Your cells use oxygen to produce energy. Many guests use HBOT alongside training and diet as part of their wider fitness and body-composition efforts.
Oxygen is central to collagen production, cellular repair and tissue turnover — the same processes that define how the body ages, recovers and rebuilds over the decades.
HBOT is being actively studied for its role in cellular repair processes. It's one of the more interesting areas of ongoing hyperbaric research.
An hour of stillness, deep breathing and elevated oxygen. Guests routinely step out calmer, clearer and sharper than when they went in. For many, that hour becomes the most restorative part of their week.
White blood cells rely on oxygen to do their job. HBOT is often used as part of a broader wellness routine focused on resilience and recovery, particularly through winter and demanding periods.
Recovery — whether from surgery, injury, or just years of wear and tear — is where HBOT has its longest-studied role. Our Marlow guests include people working through post-operative recovery, long-term injury management, and ongoing rehabilitation alongside their physio, GP or specialist care.
Oxygen-rich plasma reaches swollen and inflamed tissue that normal circulation struggles to supply — feeding the body's own repair systems exactly where they're needed most.
HBOT is a popular part of post-operative aftercare. Please consult your surgeon about timing for your specific procedure — many guests integrate it into their recovery plan from the earliest safe window.
The anti-inflammatory effect of hyperbaric oxygen is one of the most extensively studied areas of HBOT research. Guests dealing with long-term tension or joint discomfort regularly cite it as the main reason they keep coming back.
Hyperbaric oxygen is studied for its role in stimulating new blood vessel formation (angiogenesis) — potentially improving supply to tissues that the circulatory system normally struggles to reach.
Fibroblasts — the cells that produce collagen — drive connective-tissue repair. HBOT may support their work in joints, tendons and ligaments that take a real beating day to day.
Oxygen is fuel for the brain. HBOT is widely explored for its role in supporting neuroplasticity, focus and cognitive recovery — and it's something guests notice quickly in their day-to-day headspace.
HBOT sits naturally alongside cosmetic procedures and skincare routines. Oxygen underpins collagen synthesis, tissue repair and the processes that keep skin looking healthy. A growing number of our Maidenhead and Henley-area aesthetic clients use HBOT before and after procedures.
Many guests choose HBOT as part of their aftercare following cosmetic procedures. Enhanced oxygen delivery feeds the body's natural healing process and helps tissues recover more comfortably.
Oxygen is essential for collagen synthesis — the protein responsible for skin firmness and elasticity. Hyperbaric oxygen feeds the fibroblasts that produce it, helping skin look and feel more vital.
Post-procedure bruising and swelling can be eased when oxygen reaches affected tissues efficiently. Many guests report shorter recovery windows and a more comfortable healing experience.
Better oxygenation at the cellular level supports skin health from the inside out. Regular guests often describe a visible glow and improvement in skin tone over time.
HBOT has an established role in supporting the body's wound-healing process. Some guests use it to help support the appearance of scars, both recent and older.
Hair follicles depend on strong blood supply and oxygen availability. Hyperbaric oxygen feeds scalp circulation and follicular health — a popular addition to a broader hair-wellness routine.
Bone and connective tissue have limited blood supply, which is why they heal slowly. HBOT's ability to dissolve oxygen directly into plasma means it can reach these tissues in ways that ordinary breathing cannot. A common use case for guests in Marlow and Bourne End recovering from orthopaedic procedures or managing joint conditions.
Oxygen plays a direct role in bone metabolism. HBOT may support osteoblast activity — the cells responsible for laying down new bone tissue — particularly relevant for those recovering from fractures or bone procedures.
Many guests turn to HBOT while recovering from broken bones. Enhanced oxygen delivery to poorly-vascularised bone tissue may support the body's natural knitting and remodelling process.
Cartilage has no blood supply of its own and relies on surrounding fluid for nutrients. HBOT increases oxygen availability in the synovial fluid — potentially supporting joint comfort and long-term joint health.
HBOT may support the fibroblasts and chondrocytes that maintain tendons, ligaments, and cartilage — the tissues that hold everything together and take the biggest beating in active lifestyles.
Guests recovering from knee, hip, or shoulder surgery often incorporate HBOT into their rehabilitation routine. Always check with your surgeon about when it's appropriate to begin.
Early research suggests HBOT may play a supportive role in bone density maintenance by encouraging healthy bone remodelling cycles — a topic of growing interest in long-term wellness.
The brain is the body's biggest oxygen consumer — roughly 20% of your oxygen supply keeps it running. When that supply is enhanced, guests often notice it first in how they think and feel. This is one of the fastest-growing areas of HBOT research and the one our Marlow, Maidenhead and Henley guests most frequently tell us about.
One of the most frequently shared experiences. Guests often describe sharper thinking, better concentration, and a quieter mind — sometimes from the very first session.
Guests dealing with brain fog — whether from fatigue, post-illness recovery, or long COVID — often tell us HBOT has become a valuable part of their routine. Oxygen is essential for cognitive function.
HBOT is thought to support neuroplasticity — the brain's ability to form and reorganise connections. Research in this area continues to grow, particularly around cognitive recovery and adaptation.
Executives, students, and high-performers are increasingly using HBOT as a tool for mental edge. Guests describe feeling mentally "switched on" and able to sustain focus for longer stretches.
The deeply restful nature of a session — combined with elevated oxygen — means many guests step out feeling calmer, clearer, and emotionally settled. A welcome break from a busy life.
Many guests integrate HBOT into a broader cognitive-wellness routine alongside sleep, movement and nutrition — part of a long-term approach to keeping the brain resilient.
Different goals suit different rhythms. Here's how our Marlow guests typically structure their HBOT. Everyone's different — what matters most is finding a routine you can actually stick to. Start with a free first session, see how it feels, then decide what fits.
First time? The free first session lets you feel it for yourself with no commitment. One 60-minute session at 1.5 ATA, full walk-through, health & safety briefing, and you leave knowing whether HBOT is for you. Most guests who come back book a 10-session package after their first visit.
Our most common protocol. Ten sessions over 2–5 weeks, typically 2–5 times per week. Ideal for general wellness, sleep, energy, early recovery work, or just getting into a rhythm before committing to more. Sessions never expire and can be spread over longer if life gets in the way.
The widely-referenced HBOT protocol. Forty sessions over 6–12 weeks, typically up to 6 days per week during the intensive phase. Used by guests with longer-term cognitive, recovery or performance goals. Often followed by ongoing maintenance sessions at a lower frequency.
Three sessions plus a 90-day £50/session rate window. Our pay-as-you-go option — grab the three sessions, then book any extras you want over the next 90 days at the member rate. No auto-charge, no fixed schedule, no commitment beyond what you actually book.
Many guests continue with a 1–2 session per week rhythm after completing an intensive protocol. Others drop to once a fortnight or monthly. The point of HBOT is to feel better and keep feeling better — so we suggest finding the routine that works for your life, not a textbook answer.
Everyone's different, and a routine that suits one guest may not suit another. If you come to us with a specific issue you're hoping HBOT can help with, we'll talk it through and share a recommended protocol based on your situation — drawn from what's worked for guests in similar shoes. It's always a recommendation, never a prescription. You're free to follow it, adapt it, or ignore it. The protocol is a starting point, not a sales pitch.
Not sure which protocol is right for you? The free first session is the best place to start — you can chat it through with us in person, no pressure, no upsell. We've never built a hard-sell business and we don't intend to.
Green Oxygen Hyperbarics is based on Globe Park in Marlow, Buckinghamshire, just off the A404. Easy parking, no junction frustrations, and a short hop from most of the surrounding South Bucks and Thames Valley. Most of our guests travel in from the towns below.
If your town isn't listed and you're within about 20 miles of Marlow, chances are we're still the closest HBOT studio to you — especially for anyone in the Thames Valley corridor between Reading and High Wycombe.
No card required. No commitment. One free first session per guest, booked online in under a minute. Come and feel it for yourself.
